Canfield Solitaire consists of five different types of piles, which are:
The Stock: This is the pile of the facedown cards in the upper left corner.
The Waste: This is the pile of the faceup cards in the upper left corner next to the Stock.
The Foundations: These are the four piles in the right corner, out of which one contains a card while three are empty.
The Reserve: This is the pile of the cards underneath the waste pile.
The Tableau: These are the four piles that make the main table.
Canfield Solitaire consists of only one deck of cards, out of which one card is placed on to the foundation pile; this is the main card and it forms the lead rank. 13 cards are placed onto the waste pile out of which the topmost one is placed faced up while the rest faced down. 1 card is placed onto each tableau while the remaining cards are placed into the stock. The remaining three foundation piles start empty without any card placed onto them.
The objective Canfield Solitaire is to try to get all 52 cards onto the foundations' pile or as many cards as possible if all of the cards cannot be placed. The cards should be placed in proper order according to the suit and rank, starting from the leading rank which is placed onto the 1st foundation pile at the start of the game.
Flip Cards from the Stock onto the Waste: You can flip cards from the stock onto the waste. Some variants allow three cards to be flipped while some allow only one card.
Move cards from the Waste to Foundations: If the top card of the waste pile can move to the Foundation pile given that it follows the proper order and suit, it can be moved there.
Move cards from the Waste to Tableau: The top card of the Waste can be moved onto one of the Tableau piles.
Move cards from Foundation back to the Tableau: The top card of the foundation can be moved back to the tableau if required.
Move cards from Reserve to Tableau: The top card of the Reserve pile can be moved to one of the available tableau piles.
Move cards from Reserve to Foundation: The top card of the Reserve pile can be moved to one of the available foundation piles.
Move cards around the Tableau Piles: The top card of a tableau pile or more than one card can be moved from one Tableau to another if the top card of the placement pile is one rank higher and of a different color. For example, you can move a red 9 to a black 10 or you can move red 5, black 4, red 3 to a Tableau with a black 7 on top.
You can also move the cards if the moving card is a King is that being placed on Ace of a different color. For example, you can move a black King to a red Ace.
Move a card from Tableau to Foundations: You can move a card from the tableau to foundation piles by dragging it manually or just double click on the card and it will automatically move to the corresponding Foundation pile given that it follows the proper order, suit, and rank.
Unlimited Undos: You can undo your moves as many times as you want to. The game offers unlimited undo, with each undo counting as a new move.
